Oh goodness, pink, navy, and rose gold! My sweet friend Marisa, at Marisa Belle Photography, had me along to second for her on this stunning wedding day! Jamie & Ryan had a fun & blush (my favorite!) wedding at THE El Chorro. Ah, the best sunsets happen at El Chorro, I swear.
You can see all their goodness and the incredible vendor team over on Marisa’s blog!
2017 was a year of growth, lessons, and pursuing what makes me truly happy! Both professionally and personally, I’ve got a better understanding of where my heart is happiest. If I had to pick a word to outline my goals for 2018 it’s INVEST. Investing my time, energy, and funds into the things that make me smile. I’ve got big personal plans to escape our summer heat here in AZ and a professional goal to help other mamas plan, execute, and dream their goals into existence through systems and planning that works.
I am sharing some of my favorite moments and photos from 2017 below, and I hope that you had some bubbly to ring in 2018!
January 2017 – Rising Tide Society Leaders Retreat in San Francisco. Whoa, first time leaving my baby girl and I shared a tiny space with 3 women I’d never met before. I worried my 3 am pumping would wake them and we’d grow tired of one another but it was truly a blessing to have some time for me, meet new friends, and connect with my then co-leader & now website designer – Amanda! I love being a part of RTS and this escape was perfect. I also found the best Southern food and Bloody Mary in San Fran at The Little Skillet and a place that marries baguettes with mascarpone cheese and Nutella; heaven I tell ya.
In March, I photographed Emily & Curtis’ wedding day, and despite a man barbecuing behind us in bright red shorts and about 10 minutes for couple’s portraits, the sun was in the perfect spot and we utilized that light for dreamy portraits! Best glow!
In April I headed up to Pinetop for Courtney & Ken’s wedding day which was on a lake. It was awesome. They had a canoe filled with drinks, beautiful weather, and the prettiest lakeside ceremony. They easily win best flower “girls” as they had their grandmothers toss rose petals down the aisle!
Also in April one of my best friends came from Virginia to attend a conference with her husband. It was incredible getting to see a lifelong friend meet our daughter. When we went home in October, Milly got to meet her three boys (and two other special little men) for the first time and it made my whole year. Seeing your friends as mothers is a beautiful thing to witness.
Summer came way too early here in the valley but that meant celebrating our kiddos first birthday in July! We met up with family (who also live in warm places) in Chicago and had an incredible time. I love my little city girl, who fit right in, and enjoyed chocolate cake in front of the bean to ring in her first year!
July means crazy temperatures here but Frank & Jen lucked out with the best wedding day weather of 2017. Cloudy skies and random bursts of rain meant portraits outside in July! It’s usually well over 110 by then and most brides and grooms wouldn’t brave those temperatures. I’m so glad it all worked our perfectly, every couple deserves that!
California! My photog bestie Suzy Goodrick asked me to come along and second for her for a beautiful California wedding day! I wrote a whole blog post on our time there, you can find it here! Showed Milly the Pacific Ocean for the first time, and we had an amazing time, thanks for having me Suzy!
Alyssa & Steven had hands down the best dancing of 2017. I love when my brides love to dance, I love to dance too! Alyssa said “we need to capitalize on dancing time and get group shots before dinner!” She was right, she danced the night away and so did her mama, I knew exactly where she got it from. The best.
In October we took a long trip back to our home state of Virginia to visit family, friends, and then head to Disney! My husband, Chris, had a conference in Florida, and my sister happens to live there (and basically live at Disney) so we took Milly with her two cousins! Hands down, best trip, especially at Halloween! This is the brewery where we had my baby shower. Yup. I had my baby shower in a brewery, but in my defense they have the best fried oysters, shrimp, and fried green tomatoes!!
Ashley & Nick easily had the best ceremony of 2017. From Ashley’s older brother officiating, to their heartfelt vows, and their nieces singing Train’s Marry Me. These two are in loveeee and it shows in so many ways, I love you both!
November brought all the beautiful fall colors and wedding days! Katy & Caleb had the sweetest day, and Katy had a first look with her dad, Caleb, and her bridesmaids. This photo below is my favorite. Best bridesmaids reaction of 2017 ((and possibly ever))!!
Damion & Dezirae had the best bridal party, they were all so stylish and danced the night away! I love that when Dezirae got her images back she immediately shared the ones of her getting ready with her girls! Best bridal party of 2017!
2017 has been a year of growth and figuring out this whole small business owner//full-time mama gig and I wound’t trade it for anything. Here’s a picture of what most days feel like taken on film by my friend Sara Bishop. Milly girl in her element and me just hanging on for dear life! I’m so excited for 2018, time to celebrate!
Soooo, you may find yourself with something new and shiny on your left hand this season and let me be one of the first to say congratulations! Engagement is such a sweet, short, and special time in a couple’s relationship. I am a firm believer that it should be celebrated over and over! I’m sharing a few of my favorite ways to highlight your engagement ring (and even a few wedding details, below) because years later you may misplace the invitation you saved, or forgotten the perfume you wore.
I absolutely love capturing these details for my couples and think it’s such an important step in telling the story of your wedding day, and the story of your love!
I like to incorporate your ring on your invitation, it ties the story of your day together! I also love photographing your perfume, I always bring a styling board and ribbons to every wedding day, that way I can highlight your color palette and bring everything together!
Wedding day florals are money, honey (said in my best Lady Gaga voice :-)) and I’ll be sure to document them heavily. I loved this wild and colorful bridesmaids bouquet! Your engagement ring will also get lots of love at your engagement session! I love to incorporate the feeling of our time together into this detail shot, so no matter where we are (downtown, a field of sunflowers, or the desert) I’ll be sure to capture it!
Something blue! This is the detail many of my brides choose to forgo, and I totally get it, sometimes blue isn’t in your color palette, and sometimes you just have way too many other details and todos to check off the list! I do love capturing these as they are usually unique to the couple and often an heirloom.
Lastly, I love to tie all of your details into one photograph! This invitation suite from Paige Poppe is incredible, she is a local wedding stationary and watercolor artist and her work is amazing!
Katy & Caleb had a perfect Xavier wedding day that started downtown at the chic Westin hotel! I had been looking forward to this day for what felt like forever! Katy had everything expertly planned and the biggest smile on her face and Caleb was calm and happy to marry his girl! I actually started prepping my camera bag, charging my batteries, and organizing memory cards a few weeks early. That is just how excited I was for their Xavier wedding day and to celebrate with these two!
When I arrived at The Westin, Katy was quietly getting ready and enjoying those last few single gal moments with her girls. Each bridesmaid wearing a different dress in Burgundy! So pretty. She did a first look with her dad, the sweetest, and her mom helped her place her grandmother’s bracelet on her wrist and her veil in her hair.
Caleb & Katy exchanged gifts, handwritten cards, and then it was time for the first look. I love that it was in a private part of the hotel with a fun staircase. We then went downstairs for a first look with her bridesmaids, their faces seeing Katy in her dress, priceless and one of my favorite images from the day! It was such a pretty day downtown, despite the bit of rain.
They had a beautiful ceremony at the church Katy teaches at and her first class of students sung during the ceremony. Those sweet little voices added such a heartfelt moment to the day! We rocked family photos on a time crunch and then it was time to party! Off to St. Francis Xavier for cocktails, dinner, and dancing! What a day. These two are so sweet and kind and just make the cutest newlyweds ever. Happy first Christmas as husband and wife, Katy & Caleb!
Ashley and Nick had a stunning blush garden Wright House wedding this past October. Their day mirrored and captured their love perfectly. Ashely is vibrant, kind, smart, caring, and beautiful. Nick is thoughtful, quiet, kind, and lovingly looked at Ashley the entire day. Almost as if she were the only guest there. When I arrived at The Wright House I knew I’d find both of them happy and excited to be married. I couldn’t tell if there were any jitters, these two were calm and ready!
I quickly realized that Ashley had surrounded herself with several fellow nurses in her bridal party. I couldn’t get over how they served her! It is incredible to see bridesmaids putting their friend and bride first! Anything I asked of them to help with (carrying her flowers, dress, grabbing her a drink) they did with lightning quickness and a big smile. I wish all of my brides could be served in this way! One of the best parts of their day was the gift exchange. When I first met with Ashley & Nick, she told me Nick had requested they get married on a bye week for his favorite college football team. I chuckled, if I hadn’t been a Spring bride, I can see Chris requesting this too! Nick gifted her with a Mrs. Korth jersey and Ashely gifted Nick with a new watch!
I loved seeing these two celebrate their families throughout the day! Ashley’s mom walked her down the aisle (cue the tears)! And her brother officiated. It’s always a little extra special when couples choose someone close to them to officiate, it truly adds a sentimental touch. Nick’s nieces sung Train’s Marry Me during the ceremony and there was not a dry eye in attendance. I actually played the same song while editing those photos and was a happy mess of tears. The photo below of Nick giving a high five during the recessional may be a new favorite of mine. I love seeing couples CELEBRATE that they are now MARRIED!
The night was capped off with meaningful toasts, a first dance under the stars, and so much dancing! Nick & Ashley, you have the best family and friends, they know how to party! Cake & a classic Wright House wedding sparkler exit were the perfect ending to a perfect day. Congratulations again, Mr. and Mrs. Korth!
Are you here for all the incredible details and sweet, traditional touches of Alyssa and Steven’s Troon North wedding day? Well, if you scroll down to the first look THAT’S why you should be reading this post, truly! Look at that smile on Alyssa’s face when she sees her groom, Steven, for the first time on their wedding day. It makes me smile and tear up at the same time. Sometimes images can bring you both happiness and a bittersweet feeling as well. These two work incredibly hard and you could tell they left no stone unturned for their Troon North wedding day!
Allow me to tell you a little backstory, Alyssa and Steven met at their alma mater, The University of Arizona, in Tucson. You can see their engagement session we did in Wildcat territory by clicking here. They have a special love of U of A and I left wondering if I was an honorary Wildcat! That love and excitement for their school was evident but seeing just how much they loved and honored their family and friends on their own wedding day was something else! They had a small private ceremony, with their bridal party joining them afterwards for photos. And their reception site had hundreds of handmade cranes, in Alyssa’s favorite color – purple! They also had a fry bar to finalize an incredible evening, which I’ve never seen before, and the guests LOVED!!
Knowing how sweet, thoughtful, and kind Alyssa and Steven are it was evident that those values came from their families. They honored Steven’s parents with champagne flutes, as it was their wedding anniversary and Alyssa danced the entire night away with her mom, who may have been the calmest, most collected mother of a bride I’ve ever seen! Alyssa told me that they wanted to take photos with each table and early in the night to “capitalize dancing time”! The dance floor was never empty! Steven and his mother changed the traditional mother/son dance into a dance that represented the different stages of life raising a child. It was both sweet and hilarious. The part where his mom is praying a toddler sleeps is exactly my season of life and had me laughing!
I am so thankful these two came into my life, it was an absolute pleasure capturing their Troon North wedding day and celebrating the best day of their lives with them! Alyssa & Steven, wishing you a million years of wedded bliss!
These two! They met me bright and early for their Agritopia engagement session! I’ve been begging clients to meet me for a SUNRISE session over sunset, and finally Dezirae & Damion were game! I’d say it paid off once you see that beautiful golden light we captured. Agritopia is one of my favorite places to photograph engagements and families because it’s so green! And it didn’t disappoint in the Spring with a gorgeous sunrise.
We met around 5 am, it was still dark and I squealed seeing these two! How is it possible to look so camera ready that early? I’m sure I apologized for my jeans and t-shirt and the lack of coffee. Funny enough, we all agreed Dunkin Donuts was our next stop after our session had come to an end.
It was easy capturing the love between Dezirae & Damion during their Agritopia engagement session! They have a playful, sweet, and joyful love. I remember our first meeting (also at Agritopia, at the Coffee Shop) and they were both the calm, cool, collected partner! They shared their love for Disney, how they made a long distance relationship work over the years, and their excitement to be married and start their forever!
It was a lot of fun walking around Agritopia, and believe it or not, Dezirae’s ring is captured on top of an artichoke flower below! I just loved that pop of purple and the little garden plots here! It’s just about time to start the final countdown to Dezirae & Damion’s Schnepf Farms wedding day this December! I’m excited, I know they are excited, and I can’t wait to get these two sweeties in front of my camera again!
